Preschool 2’s

Children must be age two by September 1st. Children do NOT need to be potty trained.

Preschool 2’s meet on Wednesday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

This class is a Christ-centered preschool class for 2-year olds that meets for 2 hours each Wednesday. Parents rotate assisting in class.

While not overly academic in nature, Preschool 2’s provides children opportunities to practice early numeracy and pre-literacy concepts through play*. Besides these exciting pre-academic skills, children also work on developing the all-important skills of executive function and self-regulation**. These include transitioning smoothly from one activity to another, focusing attention, managing emotions, developing empathy and navigating relationships.

We help children achieve these goals by keeping our classroom routine similar every week, with built-in flexibility to accommodate their needs and interests:

  • Before class starts, parents assist children with a simple ritual of handwashing to help them transition into ‘school mode’.
  • 9:00 a.m. Free choice:  Options include but are not limited to dramatic play, book nook, process art, construction, play dough, puzzles, and sensory play.
  • Chapel:  Through simple Bible lessons, songs and prayers, children hear God’s Word and learn that Jesus loves them.
  • Recess Gross motor play on our fully fenced playground or in our classroom, dependent on weather.
  • Snack and Story: Children enjoy a shared snack while practicing good manners and hearing a story.
  • Music & Movement: Students have the opportunity to explore melody and rhythm using bells and shakers, starting and stopping, dancing, and creative movement.
  • Circle Time:  Children learn songs and finger plays, and make the transition to dismissal time.
  • 11:00 a.m. Dismissal.

Phew!  We fit a lot of playing and learning into 2 hours!
